Bates Swim Camp

Misty teaching at Bates!

Bates Swim Camp was awesome this year.  We had over 300 kids come and visit us over 4 weeks.  That was a record number of campers!

There was tons of learning, tons of sharing amongst both swimmers and coaches, and tons of good times - in the pool and out.  I couldn't have done it without help though.  I was lucky to have a tremendous group of college swimmers out here helping inspire each and every kid.  There was a new dryland crew in place.  Rebecca Hefty and David Baker showed the kids how much fun it was to be totally drained and sore!  And of course an amazing crew of college and high school coaches.  Coach Burnham (Bowdoin), Brethauer (Mary Wash), Korman (Yale), Hewitt (Nova Southeastern), and Williamson (Bates) brought the latest training and technique to camp.   High School coaching greats Kata Baker and Bill Wallace brought tremendous enthusiasm and insight to each camper too.  I can't thank you all enough.

We not only had awesome coaches and counselors, but we also had some special guests this year who made this year's camp very memorable.

We heard from 2000 Olympic Gold Medalist Misty Hyman and from 2012 London Paralympic swimmer Dalton Herendeen.   Click on those names to be wowed by what they have accomplished - and the message they sent to our swimmers.

It was a great time and we can't wait to do it again next year!
