W.NESCAC - Day 1

Elle Sergi celebrating her All-NESCAC / School Record in the 50 Free
Absolutely amazing day of swimming.   The ladies truly came to Brunswick ready to go, and on a mission!

We started off the meet with a new school record in the 200 free relay - and our first ALL-NESCAC relay since 1994! (Bates swimming history... Christine Page (1:02.4), Laura Rowley (1:11.4), Melissa Sander (1:00.4), and J.J. Lewy (54.7) got 3rd in the 400 medley relay that year with a time of 4:09.11!)

The cool thing was our B relay also got third tonight among all the B-relays.  I am tremendously proud of all our sprinters.  Amazing depth.

A bit blurry, but... Whit, Sergi, Geiss, and Depew!
A Relay - 1:36.57
Gabrielle Sergi  - 24.1
Whitney Paine - 24.2
Emilie Geissinger - 24.4
Caroline Depew - 23.7

B Relay - 1:38.54
Hannah Chory - 25.1
Nell Briggs - 24.1
Molly Levene - 24.8
Catherine Sparks - 24.4

Our breaststrokers jumped in next with Lyndsay Wallace popping a 31.7, Melissa Paoine going 31.19, and Catherine Sparks getting top 8 honors with a 7th place finish and a 30.45!

The 50 Fly was a stellar event for us with all four ladies going best times! Allie Skaperdas (26.9) Katy Zingale (26.8), Nell Briggs (26.6), and Emilie Geissinger (26.35) all going best times!  Oh, and by the way, Emilie broke Vanessa's 50 school record!

In the 500 free all our distance divas had huge drops from their in-season times... Molly Levene continued her tear with a 5:19, Nelson went from 5:29 to 5:18, Briggs went from 5:31 to 5:17, Barry from 5:24 to 5:16, Dugan from 5:24 to 5:12, and Bouchard from 5:22 to 5:10. My math says that was on average a 11 second drop from their in-season best!

The 50 back was one of the craziest events of the evening... last year it took a 30.7 to get 24th place.  This year, Ilana Meyer went a 28.6 and tied for 25th... first alternate!  She actually won the swim off with a 28.4 - so she went two lifetime bests.  Awesome.  Also in that event, Blaine dropped .2 off her lifetime best, Anne Schwarzwalder continued her amazing season with a 28.4 (LTB),  Emily Depew scored with her 28.1, and freshman Whitney Paine continued her amazing meet with a top 8 swim, and NEW SCHOOL RECORD! 27.25!

Although the 200 IM shut us out of points today, I was very proud to see Saya drop time, Leah Burke go a LTB with her 2:15 and see Denise Hui Bon Hoa go from a 2:21 to a 2:15 - another amazing breakthrough!

There were more great swims in the 50 free with Molly Levene leaving her distance group for a moment to a pop a 25.3, Hannah Chory showing her SPRINT speed with a 24.9, Caroline Depew continue to impress with her 24.4, and of course our new queen of the 50, Elle Sergi,  not only breaking the school record, but getting All-NESCAC with her 3rd place finish (24.04).

Finally, our 400 Medley Relays continued to show off our depth with a 3rd place finish in the B relay heat, and a 5th place finish for our A relay.  Check out the times and the just how close these two relays ended up to each other.  I do wish I had a crystal ball and could predict better - but again the fact that I can't get the right 4 together at the right time is a testament to just how deep and how talented this ladies team is!

Paine, Zingale, Paione, and Sergi
B Medley - 3:58.99
Schwarzwalder - 1:01
Sparks 1:08.3
Skaperdas: 58.2
C. Depew: 51.3 (Bates All time top split!)

A Medley 3:57.53
Paine - 59.5
Paione - 1:07.2
Zingale - 58.5
Sergi - 52.1

If I put the four best together from this weekend... 3:55.52 (58.82/ 1:07.2/ 58.2 /51.3)

When the dust settled.... we had TWO ALL-NESCAC performances, FOUR new school records, FIVE top 8 swims,  15 Individual Night swims, and over 30 lifetime bests!
