Six Bobcats named to NESCAC Winter All-Sportsmanship Team

HADLEY, Mass. — Six Bates students were named to the 2012 NESCAC Winter All-Sportsmanship Team, announced Tuesday by the New England Small College Athletic Conference.

The All-Sportsmanship Team is comprised of one student athlete from each institution for each sport, and is selected by the players and coaches from their respective team for their positive contributions to sportsmanship.

Among Bates’ awardees is one student-athlete who also earned NESCAC All-Conference honors in her sport: senior Kara Leasure, the NESCAC 200-breaststroke champion, who will compete in the event at the NCAA Championships on March 24. Our men's team winner is Junior Captain and Diver, Travis Jones.

We've talked at great length as to what it means to demonstrate "good sportsmanship" and below are the bullet points the team considers when voting.  Further, the list below was created by Bates swimmers and divers, for Bates swimmers and divers.  Very cool stuff.

Sportsmanship is much more than just being respectful - it is demonstrated by those that are...
• Confident, AND humble.
• Supportive and knowledgeable.
• Respectful and dedicated.
• Act courageous with humility.

Twenty Pool 'Cats named to NESCAC All-Academic Team!
