I'm sitting here at the airport next to the 14th fastest 200 backstroker in the country (don't forget she was seeded 24th). Katelyn Drake finished up her season in style by breaking her 200 back record twice, going two lifetime bests, and becoming an All-American! Nice last day of the season, huh?
Next to Drake is Kelsey Lamdin - the 11th best 1 Meter Diver in the country.... and the 7th best 3 Meter diver in the country. Her last day was also phenomenal. Actually, Kelsey seemed to morph into a better diver with each session that took place. For example, during 3 Meter prelims - with one dive remaining - she was in 11th place... 15 minutes later (after ripping her final dive) we look up and she has passed three girls to qualify for finals in 8th! From there she moved up another place and left with some hardware to go along with her two All-American certificates.
Not a bad day for a diver who went abroad this year - and girl that came to Bates to play lacrosse!
All in all we finished up with 3 All-American performances, 3 record breaking performances, and 3 lifetime bests. It's exactly why we came out here.
BTW, it was an amazing meet to be a part of and watch. The diving was the best it has been in years with 3 ladies all above the previous national record on the final night, and in the pool something like 10 new records were set with Brittney Sasser going 53.8 and 1:56.3 in both backstrokes to win Swimmer of the Meet... it was ridiculous!
Below is Katelyn's prelim 200 back... she was faster at night, but I'm waiting for that video (thanks POOM!)
